JAN PITTS SMITH
 

Ms. Jan joined AMS in 2021 to teach piano. She has taught piano, organ, voice, recorder and guitar in her lifelong career as a musician.  While in college, Ms. Jan took organ lessons from renowned organist Heinrich Fleischer in Minnesota, and has enjoyed her continuing music education through the years. She has also taught music preschool through 12th grades in schools, led Musikgarten, worked as a music therapist in various state hospitals, and taught at Amelia Arts Academy.  

After retiring as music director for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in 2019, she has  been substituting for several churches and playing for local organizations such as Council on Aging and Savannah Grande.  

She is a proud grandmother, enjoying the many activities of her grandchildren.

Ms. Jan's advice for young musicians:

"Enjoy the piano every time you sit down to practice. It's a huge instrument, there's much to explore!"
